An introduction to Safety Management Systems

Safety Management seeks to proactively mitigate safety risks before they result in aviation accidents and incidents.

Safety Management enables Operators to manage their safety activities in a more disciplined and focused manner.

When employees have a clear understanding of their role and contribution to safe operations, it enables them to prioritise safety risks and more effectively manage themselves for optimal aviation safety benefit.

The provision of training is appropriate to all employees, regardless of their level in the organisation and covers:

  • Introduction to Safety Management – including Organisational Safety Policies and Safety Objectives, Safety Roles and Responsibilities
  • Benefits of Safety Management – including SMS Processes and Procedures and Safety Reporting
  • Accident Causation – including Human Factors
  • Safety Risk Management Principles
  • Safety Culture

Throughout the training, appropriate safety information relevant to specific issues will be referenced.

This course is designed to provide an initial introduction to SMS and can lead on to a tailored programme to meet the needs of Supervisors, Managers or Senior Management Team.

SMS Recurrent Safety Training is also available and focuses on changes to the SMS policies, processes and procedures and to highlight any specific safety issues.
